Flood in Libya: The death toll in Derna may reach 20 thousand – media (video)

According to journalists, this assessment was made based on the number of destroyed areas in the city.

18 to 20 thousand people lost their lives as a result of the flood in Derna, Libya. This situation was stated by the mayor of the village, Abdulmenam al-Ghaiti, to Al Arabiya TV channel.

It was reported that the Derna president made this assessment based on the number of destroyed areas.

Note that the city of Derna is located on the Mediterranean coast. As of 2005, its population is 79 thousand people.

Let’s remember that Hurricane Daniel hit the north-east of Libya on September 10, bringing stormy winds and thunderstorms to cities on the Mediterranean coast. Many residences, hospitals and infrastructure were flooded. The city of Derna was most seriously affected, where two dams had collapsed and a disaster situation was developing.
