Russian citizen Marchenko was arrested in the United States for purchasing microelectronics in circumvention of sanctions

American authorities have arrested 51-year-old Russian Maxim Marchenko, who is accused of purchasing dual-use American microelectronics in circumvention of sanctions. About it stated at the US Department of Justice.

The United States prosecutor’s office alleges that Maxim Marchenko, permanently residing in Hong Kong, together with two alleged accomplices, through front organizations, purchased large quantities of OLED microdisplays for end consumers in the Russian Federation, which can be used in night vision devices or optical sights.

“Marchenko was presented earlier today to U.S. Magistrate Judge Andrew E. Krause in White Plains, who ordered his detention.”– noted in the statement.

Maxim Marchenko was also charged with conspiracy to defraud the United States, money laundering and smuggling, as well as smuggling American goods. He faces 100 years in prison – this is the maximum punishment on all counts.
