Hungary is tired of Sweden

The Hungarian parliament is tired of Sweden, said Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjártó.

The minister also answered the question whether Hungary would approve Sweden’s entry into NATO by the end of the year.

“It doesn’t depend on me or the government”he clarified in a conversation with “Izvestia”.

Szijjártó said that the Cabinet of Ministers has already submitted the proposal to parliament for consideration, and now it will decide this issue.

According to him, members of the Hungarian parliament are tired of criticism of its democratic system from Sweden.

Let us recall that in the summer of 2022, Finland and Sweden sent requests to NATO to become members of the Alliance. Acceptance of a new member requires the consent of all member countries. Türkiye and Hungary turned out to be “stumbling blocks” for the Scandinavian countries. Later, Budapest and Ankara ratified the treaty for Helsinki. Finland became a NATO member on April 4, 2023.

To join the Alliance, Sweden, as stated in Turkey, needs to change the law on terrorism. According to Ankara, the current law allows attackers to “walk freely on the streets of Stockholm.” On September 18, Turkish leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan reported that Stockholm’s actions were not sufficient to ratify Sweden’s membership in NATO. At the moment, Stockholm’s application has not been ratified by Hungary and Türkiye.
