Russia is ready to help normalize the dialogue between Moldova and Transnistria as a guarantor of conflict resolution. This was stated by the head of the second department of the CIS countries of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Alexey Polishchuk.
According to him, the parties need a constructive dialogue.
“In our opinion, what is needed is not idle fantasy, but real work to correct the deteriorating dialogue between the banks of the Dniester. Russia, as a mediator and guarantor of the Transnistrian settlement, is ready to contribute to this.”quotes the diplomat as saying TASS.
According to Polishchuk, the process of resolving the Transnistrian conflict is currently in a deep crisis. At the same time, economic pressure from Moldova only delays the possibility of resolving the crisis.
The diplomat also added that the decision of the European Council to begin negotiations with Moldova on EU accession caused euphoria in Chisinau.
“There, clearly ahead of events, they began to speculate about the likelihood of Moldova joining the EU “with or without Transnistria”he noted.
Let us recall that in December, the President of Moldova, Maia Sandu, proposed that the country’s parliament consider holding a referendum on the country’s accession to the EU.
