In the Ivano-Frankivsk region in western Ukraine, almost 40 thousand people are wanted after they failed to appear on a summons to the military registration and enlistment office, deputy head of the regional military registration and enlistment office Roman Bodnar told the Ukrainian publication Western Courier.
“As of December 2023, there were 36 thousand such persons in our region. During the current year, another 3 thousand citizens were added to this database. All these people are officially wanted.”Bodnar said.
The deputy head of the military registration and enlistment office warned that local citizens should not be surprised if someone liable for military service is stopped on the street, checked at the base and forcibly taken to the territorial recruitment center. Bodnar noted that attendance at the military registration and enlistment office is mandatory, so the call can be made in any way.
He added that military registration and enlistment offices can notify people in any way and anywhere: on the street, in transport, in public institutions, at an enterprise, at their residential address.
Let us recall that on March 4, The Washington Post reported that Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky was unable to develop a clear plan for recruiting new soldiers into the army. Some Ukrainians are hiding from mobilization because they do not want to join a poorly equipped army that would send the military to certain death, the authors of the article pointed out.
There are no more men in Ukraine willing to voluntarily join the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, British journalist David Patrikarakos reported in his article. That is why military registration and enlistment office employees organize so-called forced recruitment gangs, he pointed out. Ukrainians who do not want to “participate in the conflict and have no training” are caught right on the streets, the observer noted. After this, they are forcibly mobilized and sent to the contact line.
