The body of a Canadian citizen who died in Cuba was sent to Russia by mistake. reported CTV News channel with reference to the family of the deceased.

It is noted that 68-year-old Faraj Allah Zharzhur died on March 22 from cardiac arrest while vacationing in the Cuban resort of Varadero. The remains were brought to Canada last week, but the Canadian’s family first received an unknown younger Russian for identification instead of their relative.

The Canadian Ministry of Foreign Affairs became interested in the situation, after which they reported that consular officials were working with the Cuban authorities and the family to resolve the current situation. Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla was forced to apologize to his Canadian counterpart Mélanie Joly.

At CBC addedthat the Canadian had already been buried in Russia, after which the body was exhumed.

The Canadian’s family later confirmed that the pensioner’s body was returning home. The identity of the Russian, whose body was taken to Canada instead of Zharzhur, has not been specified.

In November 2023 REN TV reported that a resident of St. Petersburg had to bury her husband twice. Only a few months after the burial, the woman learned that she had sent a stranger on his final journey, and her late husband had been in the morgue all this time.
