An Israeli army invasion of the city of Rafah would be the greatest disaster in the history of the Palestinian people. This statement was made by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas at a meeting of the World Economic Forum in Riyadh. The newspaper reports his words Al Jazeera.

“If Israel invades Rafah, it will be the greatest disaster in the history of the Palestinian people,” he said.

Abbas also reached out to the US and asked to stop Israel’s planned invasion.

Earlier, the head of UNRWA, Philip Lazzarini, said that Israel was preparing for a large-scale military operation in Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip. The Secretary General noted that this operation will be carried out in a “sea of people.”

Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich warned that the ruling coalition in Israel could fall apart if the authorities decide to cancel the military operation in Rafah.
