Protesters in Tbilisi against the bill on foreign agents are using “color revolution” methods, and the organizers want to seize power in the country by force, the State Security Service (SSS) of Georgia said.

“Certain groups of people are trying to organize provocations at rallies taking place near the Georgian parliament, the purpose of which is to develop destructive and violent scenarios,” said in a released statement.

The department notes that what is happening is financed from abroad by political parliamentary and non-parliamentary parties, as well as organizations. They emphasized that the goal of the protest organizers is to seize power in the country by force.

Participants in rallies in Tbilisi, as emphasized in quoted Sputnik Georgia reported that they are going to paralyze transport hubs and block administrative buildings, and “the organizers of the protests would like the protests to lead to casualties.”

On March 7, the first protests began in Tbilisi due to the fact that deputies adopted a bill on foreign agents in the first reading. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, 133 people were detained during the protests. Later, the Georgian authorities withdrew the bill from parliament.

On April 15, 2024, in Georgia, during a regular discussion of the bill on foreign agents, a member of the country’s parliament from the opposition Citizens party, Alexander Elisashvili, got into a fight with the executive secretary of the ruling Georgian Dream – Democratic Georgia party, the leader of the parliamentary majority, Mamuka Mdinaradze.

After this, protesters began to gather outside the parliament building every day. They chant slogans and whistle. Some people wrap themselves in the flags of the European Union and Georgia. Some of the protesters are detained.
