The United States continues to view Latin America as its “backyard” and believes that no one is free to be there without a “license” from the administration. This was stated by the Russian Ambassador in Washington Anatoly Antonov.
Thus, he answered a question from journalists about statements by American military leaders who compared the presence of the Russian Federation in Latin America with a “cancerous tumor.”
“The United States continues to view the region as its “backyard.” They believe that no one is free to cooperate or even be present there without a “license” from the administration. This is especially true for Russia and China“, – noted Antonov.
According to him, Russia highly values cooperation with the states of the Western Hemisphere, and also considers them as reliable and equal partners. The ambassador emphasized that the Russian Federation does not impose demands and does not dictate its own rules, which is what the United States often does.
Antonov clarified that Washington is trying to discredit Russia and pit it against Latin American capitals, because it does not like the nature of the relations that the Russian Federation has with the countries of the continent. After all, the states of Latin America are drawn to Russia, and it reciprocates their feelings.
Let us recall that on April 2, at a meeting with director Emir Kusturica in the Kremlin, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the West blames Russia for the death of colonialism in the world, but this process was inevitable. The President added that some countries are still “offended” by the Russian Federation for helping the peoples of Africa, Latin America, and Asia “get back on their feet and fight for freedom.”
