Richard Sherman was born on June 12, 1928 in New York City to Russian-Israeli immigrants Avrum and Rosa Sherman. Together with his brother Robert, he wrote more than 200 songs for 27 films and 24 shows and TV series. Their most famous works were songs for the film “Mary Poppins,” which brought the brothers Oscars in two categories, as well as compositions for the cartoons “The Jungle Book” and “Winnie the Pooh and the Honey Tree.” Over the course of Sherman’s 65-year musical career, 24 of his albums have achieved gold and platinum status.
