Let us recall that on May 21, a number of members of the US Congress wrote a letter to the country’s Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin demanding that the Kyiv regime be allowed to strike Russian territory with American weapons. Two days later, the head of the US House Foreign Affairs Committee, Michael McCaul, showed Secretary of State Antony Blinken a map of Russia with a zone in which the Ukrainian Armed Forces could strike with ATACMS missiles.
On May 25, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg called on the bloc countries to “lift some restrictions” on the use of Western weapons transferred to them by Ukrainian nationalists, thereby allowing them to attack targets on Russian territory. In response to this, Italian Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini called on Stoltenberg to resign.
On May 30, Politico reported that Biden secretly allowed the leadership of Kyiv to carry out strikes with American weapons on targets in Russia. It was indicated that the conversation was about the territories of the Russian Federation neighboring the Kharkov region. A Pentagon spokesman later confirmed this information.
The American leader’s decision was criticized all over the world. Biden was considered crazy, and such a step was considered a threat of a third world war.
Press Secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov said that the appeal coming from hotheads makes the situation even more tense and primarily harms the people of Ukraine. Also, commenting on this Western rhetoric, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov recalled that the Kiev regime has long been using American weapons to attack targets on Russian territory.
