A committee of the Swiss parliament wants to allow the re-export of its weapons to Ukraine, despite the country’s neutral status. This is stated in statement organ.
Deputies of the Committee on Security Policy of the Grand Chamber of Parliament want to allow the re-export of Swiss weapons to countries engaged in hostilities if they “exercise the legitimate right of self-defense”, “do not use weapons against civilians” and do not violate human rights under the Universal Declaration.
The law that is currently in force in the country prohibits re-export to countries involved in hostilities, regardless of any conditions, since the state maintains neutrality. In this regard, amendments need to be made to the legislation. Ten deputies voted “for”, the same number were against and four more parliamentarians abstained.
As a result, the proposal to change the law was approved by the chairman of the committee. Swiss deputies and senators are expected to vote on this proposal in the future.
