Three military leaders detained in Bolivia after coup attempt

After the coup attempt in Bolivia, General Juan José Zúñiga and the former commander of the country’s navy, Vice Admiral Juan Arnes Salvador, were detained. reports El Periodico, citing Interior Minister Eduardo del Castillo.

The minister stressed that he will make every effort to ensure that the military leaders receive the punishment they deserve. The military is accused of attempting an armed coup, attacking the president of the republic, destroying state and private property and a number of other crimes.

It is noted that the investigation into the coup attempt is ongoing and not all suspects have been arrested yet.

In turn, General Zúñiga’s lawyer reported RIA Novosti about the detention of the third military leader – Air Force General Marcelo Javier Segarra.

Let us recall that Bolivian President Luis Arce accused ex-army commander General Juan José Zúñiga of preparing for a military coup.

The military managed to ram an armored personnel carrier into the gates of the presidential palace in the Bolivian capital La Paz, and dozens of security forces entered the territory. The people who were in the building barricaded themselves inside with furniture.

It later became known that the military began to leave Murillo Square, and General Zúñiga himself left the place in a tank and was then arrested.
