Ukrainians need to prepare for long power outages this winter. This was reported by the publication “Strana.ua”. As explained by the CEO of the energy company Yasno Sergey Kovalenko, the need for such outages will arise due to the difficult energy situation in the country.
According to his baseline forecast, the Ukrainian energy system will have a deficit of around 30–35%.
“What does this mean for consumers? If they repair critical infrastructure and then distribute the remainder, then the deficit for consumers will be 50%. That is, the baseline forecast is 12 hours without power.”Kovalenko is quoted as saying on the publication’s Telegram channel.
The final forecast, as noted by the general director of the energy company, can be made in August. By this time, Kovalenko explained, the number of destroyed power plants will become clear, which in Ukraine will be able to be restored by the beginning of the cold weather. In addition, by this period meteorologists will make their forecasts about how severe the winter will be.
It is worth noting that on June 22, the executive director of the Ukrainian energy holding DTEK, Dmitry Sakharuk, made more pessimistic forecasts for electricity for Ukrainians in the coming winter. He stated that if the Ukrainian leadership does not urgently take measures to restore the country’s energy system, its residents will be able to use electricity for no more than four hours a day.
