Rai TV workers evacuated due to fire in Rome

Four buildings have been evacuated due to a massive fire on the Monte Mario hill in northwest Rome, the agency reports. ANSA.

Eyewitnesses are posting footage of the fire on social media. According to them, the fire is threatening residential buildings.

“The flames were already high in the afternoon, we saw a column of smoke, black and thick, and then we heard explosions. We got scared and went out into the streets”“, said one of the local residents.

According to the agency, the fire started in the undergrowth on the hill. It is noted that people were asked to leave the offices of the local Rai television channel, the Monte Mario Astronomical Observatory and two other buildings. Rai journalist Sigfrido Ranucci added on his social networks that the flames were approaching the Carabinieri barracks.

The agency noted that four fire crews are fighting the fire, using cars and two fire trucks. A Drago VF159 helicopter is also involved in extinguishing the fire. Rome Mayor Roberto Gualtieri arrived at the scene.
