Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris will interview at least three finalists for the post of deputy prime minister on August 4, reported in The Washington Post.
It is noted that the politician invited Minnesota Governor Tim Walzem, Pennsylvania Governor Joshua Shapiro and Arizona Senator Mark Kelly to the meeting. It is not specified whether other contenders for this position if she wins the upcoming elections were also invited to interview with Harris: these include Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear and Illinois Governor Jay Robert Pritzker.
It is emphasized that when choosing a candidate, Harris pays attention not only to whether voters will like him, but also to whether she has “chemistry” with her running mate.
The publication’s sources reported that on August 3, lawyers led by former Attorney General Eric Holder presented the finalists, studying their biographies, experience and possible vulnerabilities. Typically, presidential candidates spend months choosing their assistant, but Holder and the legal team completed the vetting of candidates in a short time.
The Washington Post added that Harris will announce the vice president’s name on Tuesday, August 6, when they are scheduled to attend their first rally together in Philadelphia.
