Tel Aviv stated that Guterres did not condemn Iran’s latest missile attack on Israel and that he had not yet condemned the Hamas attack, adding that he believed that the UN Secretary-General would be remembered as a stain in the history of the organization.
Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz said that his country declared UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres persona non grata and banned him from entering the country. Reported this to page X.
According to Katz, anyone who cannot “unequivocally condemn Iran’s criminal attack on Israel,” as nearly every country in the world has, “does not deserve to set foot on Israeli soil.”
“This is a secretary general who has not yet condemned the massacre and sexual crimes committed by Hamas murderers on October 7. [2023 года, когда террористы совершили нападение на Израиль, убив почти 1200 человек и захватив более 250 заложников — ред.]”This did not lead to the decision to declare them a terrorist organization,” the Israeli Foreign Minister wrote.
Katz believes Guterres “will be remembered as a stain on the history of the United Nations.”
“Israel will continue to protect its citizens, preserve its status and national dignity, with or without Antonio Guterres,” the foreign minister wrote.
On the eve of Iran’s missile attack on Israel on the evening of October 1, the UN Secretary-General issued a statement condemning “the expansion, escalation after escalation, of the conflict in the Middle East.”
“This must end. We absolutely need a ceasefire,” Guterres said in a statement.
Let’s remember that Iran launched a major ballistic missile attack against Israel on October 1. Media reported that 150 to 250 rockets were launched towards Israel.
The Israel Defense Forces later reported that Iran launched more than 180 missiles. According to preliminary data, one Palestinian died and two people were slightly injured as a result of the bombardment.
