“A step towards de-escalation”: Lukashenko spoke about the participation of North Korean troops in the war against Ukraine

According to the Belarusian politician, it is claimed that Putin will not be able to persuade another country to send troops to the war against Ukraine.

Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said Kremlin chief Vladimir Putin will not send North Korean troops to war against Ukraine. He talked about this in an interview with the BBC.

“Nonsense. Knowing his character, Putin could never persuade another country to involve its army in a Russian special operation in Ukraine,” Lukashenko said.

According to the Belarusian politician, such a step could lead to escalation of tensions, which is exactly what the West needs.

“This would be a step towards escalating the conflict if the armed forces of any country, even Belarus, find themselves in the line of contact. Even if we get involved in a war, you Anglo-Saxons will immediately say that it is another country. The country intervened from one side, they will invade Ukraine. NATO soldiers were brought.”

War against Ukraine: Will Belarus intervene?

Journalist Steve Rosenberg asked Lukashenko whether Putin was trying to involve the Belarusian military in the war against Ukraine. He said he had not discussed this with anyone from the Russian Federation.

Lukashenko was enraged when Rosenberg recalled that in February 2022, Russian troops were advancing from Belarusian territory into northern Ukraine.

“How do you know that I gave permission to use Belarusian territory?” he asked.

The Belarusian politician also stated that military exercises were held on the territory of the Republic of Belarus with the participation of thousands of Russian soldiers. According to him, Putin began to withdraw his troops along the road located in the south of Belarus, near the border with Ukraine.

“At one point he directed some of these troops to Kiev,” he said.

Lukashenko also said that the Russian invaders may have been provoked.

“Putin himself decides how to withdraw his troops. Through Kiev. Or he can go through Minsk,” he said.

According to Lukashenko, he did not call Putin to find out what was going on.

Let us recall that the Belarusian politician said in an interview with propagandist Olga Skabeeva that Putin regretted starting the war against Ukraine. But the Kremlin head firmly believes that he is right, which motivates him to continue military operations against the Ukrainians.

It was previously reported that the Russian Federation and Belarus were preparing for major joint military exercises. According to Viktor Khrenin, the Zapad-2025 exercise will be the main event of joint training of military command and control bodies and troops of the Russian Federation and Belarus.
