Thousands of criminals recently released early from British prisons are back there. Relevant Data leads The Times.

The new parole scheme began operating in the UK in July. Its introduction was due to overcrowding in prisons.

As a result, prisoners in England and Wales were allowed to be released after 40% of their assigned sentence (instead of 50%).

The new measures did not apply to those accused of terrorism, domestic and sexual violence and a number of other crimes.

However, the prisoners who were released early did not show improvement at all. Instead, they almost immediately committed new crimes and went back to jail.

It is worth noting that in the UK there are quite a lot of prisoners who commit extremely high-profile sexual crimes against animals.

Thus, last year in the UK, a high-profile criminal case against a zoophile who raped calves on a farm at night was completed.

And before that, a local resident who cynically abused a seagull appeared in court. Actually, at first he chased a smaller bird, but did not catch up with it, so the attacker had to satisfy his lust with the seagull.
