Anti-corrida does not know the Feast of the Bulls and does not want to know it: Hilda Tenorio

In the midst of the bullfighting ban debate in the country’s capital, one of the highest representatives of the bullfighting festival, Hilda Tenorio, talked about his career, the wild party and the arguments put forward by both bullfighting and anti-corrida. In an interview with Digital HeraldThe Mexican bullfighter and lawyer also commented on her plans for the future, which will bring her back to the bullfighting scene.

As the debate between one and the other continues in Mexico, Hilda, 36, assured that knowing the festival of the bulls is important to understand it and he recalled how at the age of 13 he decided to start taking lessons at the festa brava, at a time when his passion for bullfighting had already begun: connected with it, and until I met him, I fell in love with the festival of the bulls, ”he said.

The bullfighter, who was born in Michoacán in 1986, pointed out that this is why bullfighting opponents stick to their stance against bullfighting, as they are not interested in learning more about the profession:

“That’s why I understand anti-corrida, they don’t know the bullfighting festival and they’re not interested in knowing it, and that’s why they attack it, because they don’t know it, if they knew, they would understand why and I don’t say that we must be like that, but they would understand that this is something necessary,” he stressed.

“Society has an ethical and moral obligation to conserve as many species as possible.”

Hilda Tenorio explained that there are many reasons for the party to continue, above all other than economic arguments, which is obvious to a certain extent, and one of them is save the fighting bull breed: “There are many reasons in favor of the bulls, most bullfighters will tell you about the economic factor, but this is something I don’t like to touch on so much. But This is necessary because as human beings, civilized and educated, we have an ethical and moral obligation to preserve the greatest number of races, species with which we interact..

And with this biodiversity, I’m not limited to animal species, but flora. But as for the fighting bull, it is a wild and cruel animal by nature and cannot coexist with people, so a very vast land is needed for its breeding, which is far from including a person.

Tenorio pointed out that the breeding of fighting bulls also has ecological benefits, in addition to protecting more animal species: “The fighting bull is by nature a wild and fierce beast, it is territorial and defends its territory.and then by protecting it, it also allows other species to be raised, in the case of deer, wild cat, other species that can coexist with the fighting bull and live there. One day I heard a rancher who said that for every hectare he had 8 or 10 head of cattle. These are hectares of pasture that are light for the planet,” he said.

“If the bull festival didn’t exist, what kind of rancher would raise a fighting bull?” the bullfighter asked, “Because you can’t leave a fighting bull to graze if he doesn’t produce anything for you, yes. We are talking about the economic issue, it gives a profit, but, let’s say, the minimum for what is collected. So why do we need a holiday of the bulls? precisely in order for the breed of fighting bulls to exist. It serves to ensure that the lungs of the planet also exist, places full of trees, meadows, oaks, cedars. And this is without touching the economic question, what profit does bullfighting bring, ”Hilda emphasized.

In an interview, Hilda Tenorio sent a message to those people who consider themselves opponents of bullfighting, assuring that they should learn more about the holiday, that they know more about how fighting bulls live: “I would say anti-corrida to get informationLet them see with their own eyes and not only in the arena, let them see how fighting bulls live. And if they have the opportunity to see when (the bull) was born, before the arena goes. It is also important that they know that you can only fight a fighting bull once in your life, then they learn and you can’t fight anymore, ”he explained.

The bullfighter also stressed that even the meat of the animal is useful: “The meat of the fighting bull is also used, consumed, and I can say that it is really organic meat, because it is an anabolic-free animal with the best products that are in nature. Let all the bullfighters be informed of the barbarity they are trying to commit to put an end to the fighting bull and with all these green spaces,” commented Hilda.

“Politicians want easy votes”

Faced with a legislative proposal to ban bullfighting in Mexico City, Hilda Tenorio assured that it was just a resource used by politicians to win votes.: “Any politician who wants an easy vote has no stronger ability and imagination than to ban the bull festival.and he knows that there are more ignorant people than him. (…) our leaders do not see what they are elected for: that it is for the good of society. They make laws about things that have nothing to do with it,” he said.

Hilda Tenorio emphasized the strong connection that exists between the holiday and the social community: “Bullfighting is closely related to everything we do in society, since since the birth of religion, it has been closely associated with bullfighting. Many temples and schools have been built with bullfights, in short, it is part of our culture. And while many people say how is it possible if it came from Spain, well, all societies take bits of culture from everyone and nurture them, and they create their own culture. (…) then the festival of the bulls is already our culture,” he commented.

When asked about the legislative proposal presented last September by MP Tanya Nanette Larios Pérez (PRI) at the CDMX Congress, in which spoke in favor of bullfighting in the capital of the country, but without insultscruelty and death to the animals involved, Tenorio ruled it out as a possibility.

“As a bullfighter, I do not support this proposal because the spectacle of bullfighting revolves around the natural courage of the bull, and one part, the most important part of bullfighting, is the luck of the rods (…) where is the courage of an animal measured, what is it used for? Not that we rejoice in the suffering of an animal, but what generates the courage of the bull, and it is this accumulation of the bull that is transferred to other meanings of life. It can end in death, or it can come forward,” said Tenorio.

At this point, Hilda stepped back a bit and picked up the subject of the PRI legislator’s proposal: “A little philosophizing, Why are we going to hide what death is? Yes, the spectacle of bulls can be cruel, but closing the children’s eyes to what really is, we will not achieve anything (:…) this is a family performance, it serves coexistence and where the reason for things is explained to you.

May 3, which changed his life

Finally, the bullfighter remembered the injury she received on May 3, 2019, and this forced her to go through a recovery process that lasted several months, and some time later he continued to train professionally. He also revealed that he would return to the ring in just a few months to continue his successful career.

“I didn’t leave, I had a very bad sore, three years and four months ago, The truth is that I didn’t die miraculously. But I didn’t appear in public anymore, although bullfighting at the ranch, I prepare every day, recently went to Spain for three months to prepare, try to open a gap, and returned to Mexico a month ago (…) but I hope to return to Spain in January and with a work visa, and when the season starts in March, to be there again. I was offered to appear again in Mexico and Peru, but I hope and dream that it will be in Spain.. That is why I did not appear in public and continue to prepare (…) Circumstances have taken me away against my will, but my mind and my heart continue to act, Hilda Tenorio concluded.
