The ZAZ-968 electric car of 1973 accelerated to 60 km / h in just 8 seconds. Lead batteries made it possible to travel 100 km without recharging.
Electric vehicles have been developed in Ukraine for over ten years. The first passenger electric car was created on the basis of the ZAZ-968 and celebrates its 50th anniversary. This was reported by the TopZhyr site.
The ZAZ-968 electric car was built in 1973 at the Zaporozhye Machine-Building Institute – there is a separate electrical machinery division. In appearance, it did not differ from the standard Zaporozhets.
Instead of a 1.2-liter gasoline engine, a 5.4-liter DK-908 electric motor was installed. With. (4 kW). Electric “Zaporozhets” developed a speed of only 60 km / h, but reached maximum speed in just 8 seconds.
An innovative control system with a pulse converter has been added to the electric motor, which makes it possible to smoothly change operating modes. Also, the ZAZ-968 electric car received a brake energy recovery system.
Lead batteries provided a power reserve of 100 km, but they were very heavy – 400 kg. Therefore, the Zaporozhets electric car remained a prototype, and the model was not developed. Nevertheless, in 1974 the car even received a silver medal in VDNKh.
The development of electric vehicles continued in Zaporozhye. Later, its “green” version also appeared in Tavria and is scheduled for release for Europe.
Previously Focus talked about the modern electric car “Zaporozhets”. It accelerates to 100 km/h in just 3.7 seconds.
We also wrote about the first Ukrainian cargo electric car LAZ-750 – its production was established 75 years ago in Lviv.
