The Volvo device will help reduce the number of remote car thefts. Cars will get better at detecting break-in attempts.
Volvo has patented a revolutionary device that can stop car thieves. This was reported on the CarBuzz website.
Device patent pending in the US Patent and Trademark Office. Adds an extra layer of security to remote locking and unlocking of the vehicle.
Oftentimes, attackers steal other people’s cars by intercepting the signal or altering the activation of remote or keyless entry. This is usually achieved by blocking the remote signal or cloning the signal to lock the car.
Volvo figured out how to reduce the number of car thefts. To do this, they plan to introduce multi-level protection to new cars, which may include an acoustic fuse in the key fob.
Volvo’s solution is based on the direct link between the vehicle and the access device, as well as timing and distance estimation based on the signal strength of the secondary acoustic sensors. The tool will run several passkey checks before unlocking or locking.
If the vehicle detects that the Bluetooth and acoustic signals are at different distances, it will recognize that a hacking attempt has been made. In this case, access to the vehicle will be blocked.
