Renault’s most affordable electric car will be a compact city model. The car will be built on a modern CMF-BEV electric platform.
Renault has started developing a new budget electric car. The new model will appear before 2027. This was expressed by Luca de Meo, chairman of the Renault Group, at the Future of the Car conference in the UK, Autocar reports.
According to him, the new model will make electric vehicles more accessible to the general public in Europe. The starting price will be around 23,000 Euros and will challenge the Volkswagen ID.1, the entry-level electric car of the future.
Luca de Meo said the inspiration for the new electric car is Japanese kei cars – miniature city cars shorter than 3.4 m. They are in great demand due to their low prices – 4.2 million such cars were sold in Japan alone in 2022.
The Renault electric car is likely to be built on the CMF-BEV platform. It will also be used by the new Renault 5 and its sporty version from Alpine. In addition, it is possible to borrow individual elements from the budget Dacia Spring Electric electric crossover.
Previously Focus Renault is reportedly preparing an inexpensive crossover to replace the Megane model.
We also wrote that the old Renault Logan of the first generation is back in production.
