Mercedes is developing unusual airbags for drivers who are lying down

The new airbags are designed for driverless Mercedes-Benz cars. They will be able to protect the driver and his passengers if they are in a reclining position.

Mercedes-Benz plans to create innovative airbags for driverless cars. They will be able to protect the driver and his passengers in the supine position. This was reported on the CarBuzz website.

In the United States, Mercedes-Benz has introduced the Drive Pilot level three autonomous driving system for its cars. When activated, the driver can fully recline the seat and even read a book. The system only operates at speeds up to 65 km/h.

Standard steering wheel airbags do not protect the driver when the driver is in a reclined position. However, folding seats are currently only available in the second row in the most luxurious Mercedes-Benz models. In the future, many of the brand’s models will feature such seats in the front rows.

Mercedes-Benz is evaluating various options for the installation of new innovative airbags. They can be placed in the seat belts or B-pillar.

Additionally, future Mercedes-Benz cars may have other safety systems. They allow you to keep the driver in the seat even in a supine position to prevent injury in the event of an accident.

Previously Focus He said that Mercedes-Benz introduced the eActros 600 electric long-distance tractor.
