Light on the schedule: Ukraine switches to planned power outages

Ukrainian electrical engineers managed to stabilize the situation with electricity in most regions, which makes it possible to refuse emergency power outages in the near future.

The situation in the Ukrainian energy system is gradually improving, so in most regions it is possible to set schedules for planned power outages. This was announced on the broadcast of the telethon on the evening of 14 December by Kyrylo Tymoshenko, Deputy Head of the President’s Office.

According to him, most regions have already lifted emergency cuts.

“This is the first thing we demand from regional energy companies and regions: people understand that there is a certain plan, there will be cuts according to this plan,” Tymoshenko said.

He added that emergency power cuts are only valid in a few areas.

“But we want to achieve planned shutdowns in all regions in the coming days,” said Kyrylo Tymoshenko.

Meanwhile, Energy Minister Herman Galushchenko said that if the negotiations with Europe on electricity imports are successful, the ongoing power cuts in Ukraine could be completely canceled. As stated by the Minister, this requires the approval of the system operators network ENTSO-E.

The Ukrainian minister said, “Today, there is electricity in Europe, it is available. At the same time, there is a deficit in the Ukrainian energy system due to the bombardment of Russia, and we want to close it with imports as much as possible.” stressful.

According to him, electricity imports will allow Ukraine to get through the winter period steadily.

All nuclear power plants in Ukraine started to work

The other day, Energy Minister Herman Galushchenko announced that the power units at all nuclear power plants in Ukraine are back into operation. On the night of 13 December, another 1,000 MW power unit from Energoatom was connected to the grid.

This power unit was disabled by a massive missile attack by the Russian army on 23 November. The power continues now.

“This is another step towards the stability of the energy system. All 9 power units of domestic nuclear power plants located on the territory controlled by Ukraine are working to meet the needs of the population and the country’s economy,” Galushchenko said.

The Minister noted that the RF Armed Forces continue to hinder the operation of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant, the plant consumes more than 100 MW of electricity from the Ukrainian energy system.

Recall that the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmitry Kuleba recently talked about the option of a complete blackout in Ukraine due to the actions of the Russian army. The official is confident that Ukrainians will migrate en masse to the villages.

Energy company DTEK said power cuts in Ukraine won’t stop until spring 2023.
