Forgot the war: Microsoft returns the ability to download Windows to Russians

Installing the operating system in the attacking country is now possible again without using a VPN.

The American company Microsoft has opened the access to download the Windows operating system to the Russians. This was reported by the Russian agency TASS.

Currently Russia can reinstall Windows 11, 10, Windows 8.1. and Windows 7.

As mentioned, the operating system is now available to users in Russian without using a VPN. You can install Windows via the setup assistant, which is also available on the company’s website.

IT specialist Dmitry Bevza told Izvestia that access to the operating system is most likely an adjustment in the company’s policy towards users who have already purchased Windows in Russia.

“The ability to download Windows is good news for those who have not been able to download software before and have had to use sources of unauthorized access to software, such as torrent trackers. Such builds are not safe and may contain, for example, viruses embedded in the operating system image, ”the edition writes.

Recall that Microsoft announced in March of this year the suspension of the sale of goods and services in Russia. The company has pledged to help Ukraine maintain cybersecurity during the war and act within the framework of anti-Russian sanctions from the United States and Europe.

But on October 12, Russian media reported that Microsoft had secretly returned to Russia and was selling their software at a discount. Russian users had the opportunity to re-license or re-license for the Microsoft 365 service.
