The Ministry of Energy talked about what will happen to the Ukrainian energy system after the war. Energy Minister German Galushchenko shared his restructuring plans during the Partnership for Transatlantic Energy and Climate Cooperation (P-TECC) forum in Zagreb, the press service of the Ukrainian ministry reported.
According to him, the distribution of production capacity will be one of the main short-term tasks, especially given the preparations for the next heating season. According to the German Galushchenko, after the war the Ukrainian energy system will operate according to the principles of clean and safe energy.
“We will do this as soon as possible. Gas turbines and gas piston production as well as renewable energy sources can play an important role here,” the minister said.
It is also planned to increase the share of nuclear energy in electricity generation in the medium term.
What is currently known about the energy situation in Ukraine
On Wednesday, March 1, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky held an energy meeting to which representatives of Naftogaz, Energoatom, Ukrenergo and Ukrhidroenergo were invited. Members of the government, the head of the relevant commission in the Ukrainian parliament, representatives of the Ministry of Defense and intelligence also attended the meeting, which lasted about three hours.
“This winter has passed. It was very difficult, and this difficulty was felt by every Ukrainian without exaggeration. But we were still able to supply Ukraine with energy and heat. Yes, the threat to the energy system remains. The energy system continues,” said the Ukrainian president.
The head of state noted that the current tasks have already been solved in order to normally complete this heating season.
Preparations for the next heating season have also begun.
Recall on Wednesday (March 1st) Yuriy Boyko, a member of the Supervisory Board of Ukrenergo, said that the electricity situation in Ukraine is gradually improving. At the same time, there may still be minor local power outages in the country over the next few months, but this will not be to the point of a blackout.
