Gas prices in Ukraine have fallen to an annual minimum: what’s going on?

The cost of gas is falling due to the cheaper blue fuel in Europe imported by Ukraine.

The actual cost of selling natural gas in Ukraine in February 2023 was set at UAH 20,727.73 per 1,000 cubic meters, excluding VAT. According to the data on the Ministry of Economy’s website, this is 12.6% cheaper than a month ago.

According to the ministry, since the start of calculation of the indicator from March 2022, the average price has fallen to the minimum:

The selling price of Ukrainian gas is falling due to the cheaper European blue fuel that Ukraine imports. Thus, on Tuesday, March 7, April futures prices at the TTF headquarters in the Netherlands dropped to $457 per 1,000 cubic meters, according to the London-based ICE exchange. m, At the same time, the total reduction in the daily cost of blue fuel was 6%.

It should be noted that in January 2023 gas producing companies sold “blue fuel” at 23,723,4323,723.43 UAH/bin. cubic meters. The cheapest gas was sold last August, with an average price of 24,045 UAH per thousand. cubic meters. The most significant increase in price was recorded in October, when the cost of gas rose to UAH 38,295 per 1,000 cubic meters.

We add that the average gas price is calculated according to the formula for the purposes of the Tax Code of Ukraine on the collection of rent for underground use.

Meanwhile, the European Union has decided to regularly arrange general gas purchases to ensure adequate fuel. Joint gas purchases are a new tool used by EU countries to limit the rise in energy prices caused by the cutoff from Russia after the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

On March 1, it was learned that Texas-based Sustainable Solutions has agreed to lease a floating terminal to buy liquefied gas, and that the company will deliver most of the fuel to Ukraine. Naftogaz management plans to visit Houston next week for relevant negotiations.
