Grain deal could start early next week – media

According to Vasyl Bodnar, Ukraine’s Ambassador to Turkey, Ukraine should look for alternative options if the Russian Federation tries to block the “grain deal”.

The “grain deal” between Ukraine and the Russian Federation could expire next week. Reuters writes that the transition is expected to be completed by March 18.

The publication says that the Russian Federation does not intend to continue its participation in the agreement after 18 May, allegedly because its demands to facilitate its own grain exports were not met.

Journalists received a letter in which Moscow stated that the registration of new ships will be carried out only by May 18 “after receiving guarantees from the owners of the completion of their participation in the enterprise.”

“This will prevent commercial losses and prevent potential security risks,” the letter states.

The authors of the article note that Russia may not approve the passage of new ships under the agreement as early as next week.

According to Vasily Bodnar, Ukraine’s Ambassador to Turkey, Ukraine should look for alternative options if the Russian Federation tries to block the “grain deal” on May 18.

“My personal view is that the grain deal is of course a way out of the situation, but this is somehow a limitation of Ukrainian sovereignty, as we cannot freely export all products in accordance with international law,” said Bodnar. a briefing.

Recall that on March 18, the “grain agreement” guaranteeing the safe passage of ships carrying vital export grain from Ukraine was extended for 120 days, instead of the 60 days previously announced.

Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesman Oleg Nikolenko said on March 20 that Russia is trying to undermine the Black Sea Grain Initiative, accusing Ukraine of failing to meet export targets to countries in need.

On April 18, the head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell, noted that the Russian Federation blocked 50 ships carrying Ukrainian grain in the Black Sea. According to the politician, this is not the first attempt by the Russian side to block Ukrainian grain exports.
