The National Commission decided that Ukrainians should sell their own electricity under a free contract and at a negotiated price.
Ukrainians were allowed to sell the electricity produced during their use of the production facilities. On May 9, 2023, the press service of the State Regulatory Commission in the Fields of National Energy and Utilities (NKREKU) reported this.
“NEURC has decided to grant all electrical energy consumers the right to sell the energy produced by such a consumer’s generation plant and/or energy storage facility to any supplier under a free contract and at a negotiated price,” the report states.
At the same time, it was noted that such a decision will help increase competition in the retail electricity market, aim to improve distributed generation and ensure the green transformation of the energy sector.
What will change now for Ukrainians?
Due to the blackouts, since the autumn of 2022, platforms have been actively emerging in Ukraine, where visitors can work for a cheap fee or charge their smartphones and laptops. But such services are not always approved by regulatory authorities. For example, at the end of November, an entrepreneur from Odessa was fined 34,000 UAH. He was accused of selling electricity without a license.
Then on the sale of electrical energy, lawyers advised to familiarize themselves with the legislation on the licensing of types of economic activity. It states that the mere fact of generating electricity with an unlicensed generator cannot constitute a violation of the law.
Now the sale of electricity by Ukrainians is officially legalized.
