The RF Armed Forces continues its attacks on Ukraine’s front line and border areas. The Russians are targeting the energy infrastructure, so some settlements do not have electricity. This was announced on May 23 at the Ministry of Energy.

Which areas have light problems?

According to the section, in Donetsk region Due to the conflicts, the energy of 14 settlements was cut off, approximately 9 thousand consumers were left without electricity.

“After the last major bombardment, the mine is de-energized. The latter has been improved,” the ministry said.

Also after the bombardment Zaporozhye region 4 settlements are de-energized and Sumy 2.4 thousand consumers were left without electricity.

“In addition, some consumers in the Kharkiv, Kherson, Chernihiv regions are also without power due to the previous bombardment. Repair teams are working where the security situation allows,” the Ministry of Energy said.

The ministry also states that the energy system is working steadily despite the most difficult situation after the bombardment. The repair campaign continues in production facilities and networks.

What is the situation with the power system?

Despite the ongoing bombardment, the electricity produced is sufficient to meet the needs of consumers. According to Ukrenergo, as of May 23, the existing water resources allow hydroelectric power plants to operate throughout the day, as well as increasing their production to meet the morning and evening consumption peaks.

“However, the floods are gradually decreasing, which will affect the operation of hydroelectric power plants. Solar and wind power plants are actively operating during daylight hours. Nuclear and thermal power plants are being repaired gradually,” the company said in a statement.

Recall that since May, most of the nuclear power units in Ukraine will stop working as part of the planned repair and modernization. Meanwhile, Energoatom reported that since the electricity shortage will be compensated by thermal power plants and imports, Ukrainians are unlikely to feel any discomfort due to this.

Also, on May 17, Ukrenergo was told whether there would be a power cut for Ukrainians in the summer. According to the head of the company, Vladimir Kudritsky, the production gap will be closed by importing current from Europe and increasing thermal generation capacity.
