Light in autumn: Ukrainians explained when and why problems may arise

There is currently no shortage of electricity in the energy system, but power outages are still possible, given the high risk of mass bombardment of energy facilities.

Cold weather in the first days of September made it possible to stabilize the situation in the Ukrainian energy system. Ukrenergo is no longer appealing for emergency aid from Europe, as it did in August, due to abnormally hot weather. The company’s president, Vladimir Kudritsky, said this.

According to him, the energy system will work stably in October.

“There is enough electricity in the system now. Of course, if there are no major bombardments in September-October,” he said.

At the same time, as the company notes, there is a high risk of large-scale bombing of energy facilities. Especially the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of National Defense has such information.

“Unfortunately, we had a negative experience last winter, but this gives us the opportunity to prepare for possible Russian attacks. We all – air defense, energy and Ukrainians – know what the enemy is capable of,” stressed Vladimir Kudritsky.

He also added that Ukrainians should be the first in the world to invent structures that protect electrical equipment from missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles.

“The experience of our defense experts is now of great interest to our colleagues in Europe and the United States,” Kudritsky said.

What will happen to light in autumn and winter?

On September 12, the Ministry of Energy denied information in some media outlets that planned power outages would begin in Ukraine as of October 1.

“The largest repair campaign of energy facilities since independence is underway in Ukraine. Thanks to these efforts, the energy system will be fully ready for the heating season without power outages and associated restrictions on consumers,” the ministry said.

The press service explained that power outages are possible and will happen, but this will only happen if the energy infrastructure is damaged during the shelling of the Russian Armed Forces.

Meanwhile, Alexandra Kharchenko, director of the Energy Research Center, believes that the winter of 2023-2023 will be very difficult due to the fact that the destroyed equipment cannot be repaired in a year.

Moreover Focus He explained whether Ukrainians will be able to use mobile communications and the Internet during the ban period.
