The Chinese economy is one of the locomotives of the world economy and demonstrates high growth rates, Russian President Vladimir Putin said during a plenary session of the Valdai International Discussion Club.

Putin noted that all speculation about the slowdown in economic growth in China is nothing more than chatter and idle talk.

“Because China provides these high rates (of economic growth) and is one of the leading engines of the world economy”,” the Russian leader emphasized.

The head of state noted that the growing power of China frightens the United States, and statements about violations of human rights and national minorities are only ways to fight a competitor. At the same time, the White House is pursuing a similar policy towards Russia.

Putin added that Russian-Chinese cooperation is an important factor stabilizing international life. In order for its importance to increase, attention should be paid to maintaining the economic growth rates of the two countries, the president concluded.
