The number of vacancies is increasing: Which regions have the highest demand for workers?

Over the past few months, the number of vacancies in the Ukrainian labor market has increased. Meanwhile, the employment agency is concerned about the labor shortage due to population migration. So last year there were 9 people applying for a vacancy, today there are 2 people.

Despite the difficult economic situation in Ukraine, employers’ demand for workers is increasing. From July to September alone, the number of available jobs on the market increased by 20 thousand. This situation was reported at the State Employment Center.

The largest number of workers is sought through employment services in Kiev and the Lviv region – 11 thousand vacancies each. Moreover, the largest number of vacancies are registered in the following countries:

  • Dnipropetrovsk region – 5 thousand;
  • Kyiv region – 4 thousand;
  • Odessa region – 4 thousand.

Approximately 20% of available jobs are in the processing industry, with another 16% in wholesale and retail trade. In addition, the employment service recorded 10% of vacancies in the education sector and the same number of vacancies in transport and postal services. Another 8% of vacancies were in health and social care.

Employers are mostly looking for tailors, handymen, electric and gas welders, bakers, carpenters and painters. About 18% of available jobs are drivers, turners, tractor operators, milling machine operators, etc. is for.

There are 14% of all open positions for teachers, educators, pharmacists, doctors and engineers, and 15% for service sector workers.

Also, at the end of August, the State Employment Center reported that the average salary offered by employers was 11 thousand UAH. Thus, on average, managers and administrators are offered a salary of 13 thousand UAH, and skilled workers with tools are offered a salary of 12 thousand UAH. Meanwhile, workers in the trade and service sectors were offered an average of 11 thousand UAH.

The employment agency suggests that Ukraine may soon face a labor shortage in some professions. This was because Ukrainians emigrated abroad.

“Given the significant population migration abroad, the labor market will soon face a shortage of labor. Now in the Lviv region and Kiev the number of vacancies significantly exceeds the number of people looking for work with the help of the employment service. The biggest shortage is in the processing industry,” the statement said. “And personnel losses are observed in construction.”

In other words, in the same period last year, there were 9 people applying for a vacancy, today there are only two people.

Let us also remind you that according to the results of a survey conducted by an international employment agency, almost 40 percent of Ukrainians who went to Poland as of the beginning of April do not plan to return to Ukraine. Many of those who left found work in the neighboring country.

Also, starting January 1, Ukrainians receive a smaller maximum unemployment benefit. The maximum payment is 6,700 UAH instead of 9,750 UAH. Minimum unemployment benefit decreased from 1,800 UAH to 1,000 UAH.
