“There is also a crisis along with war”: Ministry of Finance warned that there is a “gap” of 29 billion dollars in the 2024 budget

Minister Sergei Marchenko said that Ukraine urgently needs the help of its allies. He emphasized that the consequences of the crisis will be “very traumatic” for all of Europe.

This week Ukraine will adopt its 2024 budget. It is expected that there may be a hole worth 29 billion dollars. This was reported in Politico, citing a statement by Ukrainian Finance Minister Sergei Marchenko.

“Maintaining macroeconomic stability is very important, because we will experience an economic crisis as well as a war. If there is a crisis in Ukraine, it will have side effects in the EU,” he said.

The minister assured that Ukraine is ready to implement reforms and strengthen the fight against corruption. He also emphasized that the help of partners is urgently needed.

“We are ready to discuss, but we are not ready for the fact that this could lead to a delay in providing support to Ukraine. We need money from the beginning of next year,” Marchenko said.

According to him, the consequences of the delay in support to Ukraine will also be felt by the European Union.

“The consequences of the economic crisis will be very, very traumatic not only for Ukraine, but for the whole of Europe,” the official emphasized.

It also reminded Russian assets frozen by G7 countries. The Minister asked the allies to send this approximately 300 billion dollars to Ukraine.

“Obtaining frozen Russian assets for the reconstruction of Ukraine is a legitimate priority for Ukraine,” Marchenko said.

He also reminded of Ukraine’s accession to the EU. According to the official, Kiev has fulfilled all the necessary prerequisites for the start of negotiations and is waiting for an invitation to join the European Union.

Let us remind you that the people’s representative Yaroslav Zheleznyak shared the details of the draft state budget of Ukraine for next year. He said that the government wants to allocate 445 million hryvnia for TV series production.

The possibility of a significant “hole” in the budget was previously confirmed by Prime Minister Denis Shmygal. He assumed that Kiev would need $42 billion in financial aid to cover the deficit.
