It was more expensive, but it will become cheaper: How the price of autogas will change in Ukraine

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine assured us about the rapidly increasing autogas prices at the end of 2023.

Liquefied gas will drop even further, with its cost falling by about 9 kopecks to 36.65 hryvnia per liter at gas stations in Ukraine on December 2-3. But it is not fast and not very powerful. This was announced by Alexey Ustenko, public deputy of the Servant of the People, member of the Committee on Finance, Taxation and Customs Policy of the Verkhovna Rada, during a telethon on December 4.

It should be noted that some filling stations in Ukraine have already reduced prices for autogas between December 1 and 4, as shown by market price monitoring data from A-95 Consulting Group, Enkorr reports.

Why did the price of autogas increase in Ukraine – reasons and current situation

As Alexey Ustenko stated, autogas was imported to Ukraine by road, not by rail.

“The trading market for all types of fuel is not very high-margin and the price can both rise and fall. Therefore, if you brought diesel fuel to Ukraine for 43 hryvnia, you need to sell it as quickly as possible, because If the price drops below 43 hryvnia in Europe You will also sell in Ukraine because the price reacts very quickly,” Ustenko explained.

According to him, delivery by wagons takes more than a month.

Border blocking

He said that 40 percent of liquefied gas came to Ukraine from Poland, but after the closure of the border there, 40 percent of liquefied gas did not reach Ukraine.

“So the deficit has already started,” the MP said.

Moreover, 10-15 percent of the gas was brought from the Baltic countries, which could not enter via Poland. This volume was therefore imported in a roundabout way via Slovakia or Romania. “But there were also queues at the borders,” he said.

Autogas in other aspects

The MP added that Romania did not ship gas from Galati due to the storm in the Black Sea. There was also a problem with the gas coming from America without a passport, so it was delayed at customs.

He added that many such factors led to a shortage of autogas in Ukraine and an increase in the price of autogas.

At the same time, the wholesale price of liquefied gas fell 10% last week.

“Therefore, the price has already fallen. Even if the blockade on the Polish border is not lifted, we will be able to buy gas from Romania and further into Europe. Even if the price does not fall much, it will still fall,” Ustenko said. .

Earlier, the head of the New Country charity foundation, Andrei Novak, had already explained why the price of autogas has increased and what to expect next. According to him, the removal of fuel subsidies in the summer of 2023 led to an increase in diesel and gasoline prices. Afterwards, autogas prices remained almost unchanged. However, it is now catching up with this increase.
