Ukrainians whose IDP status was revealed before the large-scale occupation of the Russian Armed Forces must be physically identified at Oschadbank in order to avoid being deprived of social benefits. Meanwhile, the Council of Ministers decided to extend the time required to complete the procedure.
In Ukraine, some retirees were not allowed to undergo a physical identification examination at Oschadbank in order to receive their retirement payments until March 31, 2024. The change applies to internally displaced persons who registered before February 24, 2022, the press service of the Ministry of Social Policy reported.
Important
Thus, as stated by the ministry, citizens will have an additional three months to complete their physical ID.
“This can be done at a branch of the Pension Fund or Oschadbank, or remotely via the PFU electronic account or video authentication,” the Ministry of Social Protection emphasized.
At the same time, the Ministry of Reintegration added that the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine agreed on a decision that allows the calculation of pensions for Ukrainians even if Oschadbank reports to the regional bodies of the Pension Fund of Ukraine (PFU) owned by its customers. No borrowing transactions were made in their accounts for six months.
“However, starting January 1, 2024, in such cases, recipients will not be accrued a pension until their physical identification is established,” the ministry said.
Identity at Oschadbank: What every retiree needs to know
To obtain physical identity verification from the government for various types of payments, Ukrainians can:
- You must come to the Oschadbank branch in person;
- attend a private video conference where the person will show supporting documentation;
- Log in to the Pension Fund web portal using your credentials via “Diya”;
- Come to a foreign diplomatic institution of Ukraine, whose employees will testify that the person is alive.
Salaries and pensions are at risk:
The Ukrainian government has warned that if the West does not provide financial assistance in early 2024, salary and pension payments to the public may be temporarily suspended. Therefore, according to Minister of Economy Yulia Sviridenko, Ukraine may have to postpone the payment of salaries of 500 thousand civil servants and 1.4 million teachers. Additionally, 10 million retirees may be left without a pension.
As Sviridenko noted, Ukraine hopes to receive foreign support worth $37 billion in 2024. However, now US President Joe Biden’s $60 billion request remains up in the air in Congress, while the EU support package of 50 billion euros could not be allocated because it was blocked by Hungary.
