The US Treasury Department has threatened to impose sanctions against the Austrian banking group Raiffeisen Bank International for doing business in Russia, writes EUobserver.

According to the portal, American authorities believe that the bank is “helping the Russian army.” Therefore, he risks being cut off from the US financial system. The topic was discussed in Vienna at a meeting on March 7–8, which included official Anna Morris, the group’s leadership and representatives of the Austrian government.

At the same time, representatives of Raiffeisen refused to comment on their relations with the government to the press.

Let us remind you that Raiffeisenbank is a subsidiary of Raiffeisen Bank International, which has been operating in Russia since 1996. It is included in the list of systemically important enterprises in the industry, ranking 10th in terms of assets in the country.

In March 2023, it was reported that Raiffeisen Bank International intends to sell or divest its business in the Russian Federation.
