The psychological theater of Konstantin Stanislavsky, even after a century, continues to develop, is still alive and loved by the audience. On the day of the 160th anniversary of the great theater director, People’s Artist of the Russian Federation, artistic director of the Moscow Provincial Theater Sergei Bezrukov spoke about the “ethics” and “aesthetics” of Stanislavsky.
In the column for “Izvestia” Bezrukov recalled that the Stanislavsky system is absorbed by the actors “with every breath”, and even opponents of the director’s theatrical aesthetics still oppose Stanislavsky.
“His faith in the given circumstances, his demand to be truthful, his focus on the life of the human spirit on stage. This, it seems to me, will never cease to be relevant”the actor explained.
He recalled that over the past century, theatrical art has acquired many trends and ways for the existence of an actor on stage. But even in such cases, talented artists at least fragmentarily live on the stage “according to Stanislavsky.” Based on the foundation laid, many of the director’s students developed their own systems. According to Bezrukov, that is why Stanislavsky’s “ethics” and “aesthetics” have not become something dying and are constantly evolving.
“I see that the psychological theater created by Konstantin Sergeevich is still alive and loved by the audience. Precisely because there is truth in it, there is a human life. Not directorial puzzles, but a human story that the director tells through the actor living this story on the stage”, – said the actor.
