Baldwin faces 5 years in prison for killing cameraman on set

American actor Alec Baldwin, who during the filming of the western “Rust” accidentally shot the operator of the picture, was formally charged with manslaughter. Now he could face up to five years in prison, according to Page Six.

It is noted that New Mexico First Judicial District Attorney Mary Carmack-Oltvis formally filed charges against the celebrity and Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, who was responsible for maintaining the weapons on the set.

On January 19, Baldwin was charged with criminal charges in connection with the shooting on the set of Rust. It was reported that the investigation found no evidence that anyone purposefully loaded the gun with live ammunition. Also, no reasons were found for anyone to wish the death of the participants in the filming, so the incident was qualified as an accident.

The 64-year-old actor, as follows from the publication, can be sentenced to five years in prison. Gutierrez-Reed may also receive a similar term.

Baldwin’s lawyer told Page Six earlier that the accusation against the celebrity was a “horrible miscarriage of justice” because the actor could not have known the gun was loaded with live ammunition.

Recall that in October 2021, actor Alec Baldwin fired a gun during a rehearsal for an episode. The weapon turned out to be loaded not with blanks, but with live ammunition.

As a result, a native of Ukraine, Galina Hutchins, died. In addition, director Joel Souza was seriously injured.

Baldwin himself stated that he did not pull the trigger of the pistol. According to him, the shot happened randomly. The husband of the deceased woman – the cameraman sued the actor and the film crew. The investigation into the incident ended at the end of October 2022.

And on November 12, Baldwin filed a lawsuit against the participants in the filming of the film “Rust”. The actor decided to sue weapons specialist Hannah Gutierrez-Rid, as well as assistant director Dave Halls, who gave the artist a gun, and others.
