Pepe Aguilar ahead of receiving Lifetime Achievement Award at Latin AMA 2023: “The fact that they continue to recognize you is a blessing”

“The fact that they continue to recognize you is a blessing.”… With humility, but confident in who he is and what he has achieved in these 30 years of making music, comes from a Mexican dynasty, Pepe Aguilar is ready to receive the Lifetime Achievement Award – The Legacy Award at the Latin AMA 2023.. But first, we talked to him about the music of the famous phrase “Being Hispanic is in fashion.”

A reward for your career, for leaving, for leaving this world. How do you feel?

Pepe Aguilar: I am very happy to be at this art festival, In this place where I’m at the Latin American Music Awards for the first time, I’m going to introduce myself. Very pleased with the award, but even happier to continue participating in the Latin American Art Festival after so many years. They’re going to have 3 decades of career and that they keep considering you, that they keep appointing you, that they keep acknowledging you, because it’s a blessing..

-Being successful is about being close to the public, but it’s also about the responsibility of reinventing yourself and falling in love from generation to generation. How it’s done?

Pepe Aguilar: I think it depends on each person, I don’t think there is a formula because If there was a formula, all artists would be Michael Jackson…. How they take the blows of life, how you see life lessons, how they are headed, how they prepare, how passionate they are, how passionate they are about their career, what they do … It’s mixed and together will help you lead yourself there, where you need it, except for your stubbornness and perseverance, which is also very important.

There has to be a pretty strong degree of stubbornness in an artist, because people have literally thousands of options.so reinvention is part of the game… If you want to be in this business, I say to young people who are just starting out, It depends what they want, maybe they want a fleeting adventure in an artistic environment and become a millionaire and then goodbye.Ouch The best is what goes on and it’s like a lifestyle and it’s a commitment that never ends.. You have to constantly invent something new to stay up to date and feel relevant.and to make you feel like you are and continue to contribute.

I was talking about this with my wife recently, I’m recording a new album, and all of a sudden I was like, “Oh, this sounds like 2005 to me, no, nothing to do with that, I have to do it differently. “, and I started moving it here and moving it there, and then I said, “Wow, very good” … And so, it’s like a survival instinct, the one that makes you reinvent yourself.

– What do you like most about this update?

Pepe Aguilar: Well, this challenge, I saw a documentary by Diego Armando Maradona who said that The best version of Diego Armando Maradona was when he was faced with impossible tasks, insurmountable problems, huge obstacles. That was when I played my best, that was when I came out the most… And I think that I have this part of Maradonanothing more, I don’t have his fame, or his money, or his talent, but I have that part where all of a sudden everyone says: “No, this is the end”, it’s like, or when you see difficult things, it’s a big support for me and There are challenges all the time in this business, the competition is tough all the time, and there are a lot of people who don’t want you to succeed, so I live my life fully stimulated..

-Pepe, recently the phrase “it’s fashionable to be Latino” has appeared all over the world, what do you feel when you hear this phrase?

Pepe Aguilar: Musically it’s my world, I can tell you that Never in my life and in what I know of history has happened what is happening now all over the world.. Certainly It has to do with connectivity, now the whole world is connected, with one click we can be on the other side of the world showing them our music.… But it also has to do with evolution, with the evolution and rethinking of Latin American music.. Now there are a lot more genres, a lot more expressions, how did he get out of that picture where we had it before, and this evolution, through coherence, in my humble opinion, has done whatthat now Latin American music is in the top 3 of world music, and right now it is in number 1.

The artist on many important platforms is the number 1 in the world named Featherweight, a 23 year old boy who started 3 or 4 years ago more or less 2 years ago.… See how history has changed, how people communicate now and what situations can happen. I think there’s a lot to talk about in the art world right now, and thanks to technology, I think we’re only seeing the beginning.
