Losing weight for the New Year in a short time can seriously harm your health. This was stated by the head of the Department of Dietetics at ROSBIOTECH University Alexey Bereznikov in a conversation with “Lentoy.ru”.

According to the specialist, the norm for weight loss for overweight people is to lose from 500 grams to one kilogram per month. In this case, the lost weight does not return, since the metabolic mechanisms remain unchanged.

“That is, a slight calorie deficit and an increase in physical activity does not create a rebound effect on metabolism,” – he specified.

Bereznikov explained that when trying to lose weight quickly, people tend to greatly underestimate the number of calories they consume. As a result, metabolism slows down and weight remains the same. Moreover, such “pirouettes” can lead to the fact that after losing weight, the lost kilograms will return.

“And with a tendency to further increase,” – added the nutritionist.

Also, a sharp reduction in calorie intake can negatively affect a person’s mental health. When food enters the body, the brain begins to produce endorphins and the person is happy.

“If we don’t get the right amount of food or it’s of the wrong composition, then the amount of endorphins decreases. Because of this, severe calorie restriction is difficult for many people to tolerate, they become more irritable,” – the expert explained.

The ideal option, says the nutritionist, is to lose weight together with a specialist. It will help you create the right diet that will not harm the body.
