Participants in the 2nd scientific and practical conference “Multidisciplinary Personalized Medicine” taking place in St. Petersburg spoke about research that makes it possible to detect cancer at an early stage. Modern technologies help to diagnose a tumor in a timely manner, which increases the chances of successful treatment.

At the conference, doctors discussed the most common and aggressive diseases that claim the most lives. These include lung, liver, breast, stomach, colon, prostate and cervical cancer.

Doctors explained that diagnosing aggressive tumors does not necessarily require complex and expensive technologies. During the examination, commonly used tests are often used.

“First of all, we are talking about such basic, accessible methods as mammography, computed tomography of the lungs, colonoscopy, ultrasound of the prostate gland, mucosal smear, blood and stool tests,” – said the chief oncologist of the My Medical Center Group of Companies, scientific director of the conference, Doctor of Medical Sciences Pavel Rumyantsev.

It is possible to comprehensively assess the condition of the body in order to prevent negative scenarios with the help of advanced molecular genetic research, which has simplified and improved the early diagnosis of cancer.

“For example, bowel cancer can be most reliably detected using a specialized set of tests, including endoscopy, abdominal imaging, as well as highly sensitive stool occult blood testing and genetic blood tests,” said a researcher at the Scientific and Methodological Center for Molecular Medicine of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation, a doctor at the clinical diagnostic laboratory of the PSPb State Medical University named after Academician I.P. Pavlova Vladimir Nazarov.

Such tests have not yet been developed for all types of cancer, but laboratory genetics is rapidly developing. According to Nazarov, in the future, oncology diagnostics will universally include a whole range of these studies.

It is important that patients know what their risk factors are. We are talking not only about bad habits and lifestyle, but also heredity – you need to know about all cases of cancer in family members.

The event was organized by the Group of Companies “MMC”, the Association for the Development of Theranostics and the St. Petersburg Radiological Society
