Russian army against Putin. Why create the “Siberian battalion”?

Former officer of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Russian Federation Vladislav Ammosov forms a battalion to fight for the right of the peoples of Russia to freedom. The future military formation has already received the name Siberian battalion – or “non-Russian”, this is the second working title. Representatives of different ethnic groups of Russia participated in its creation.

Ammosov speaks of himself as a career officer who has built a military career in the Russian army and special services for more than 15 years. However, he left the service after the annexation of Crimea in 2014. The soldier, a Yakut by nationality, speaks of the fact that representatives of other ethnic groups in Russia are viewed as “second-class people” and that, as a person “non-Russian”, he has repeatedly been rescued under his official identity.

“For a long time I was ready to shoot Russian citizens – it is difficult to watch how people are beaten, imprisoned in Russia. Can’t we get together and repulse this rabble? Even now I am ready. Ammosov demanded that the sabotage and reconnaissance group go to the territory of Russia and destroy the enemies there.

Who is Vladislav Ammosov, the creator of the Siberian Battalion?

Vladislav Ammosov’s personality was first recognized in January 2023, when the so-called “Civil Council” announced that it had sent to Ukraine the first volunteers ready to fight against the Russian army. Among them, Ammosov was mentioned, the corresponding video was posted by the social service Reddit. It is worth noting that the surname Ammosov is quite popular in Yakutia. For example, Maxim Ammosov was one of the founders of the Yakut Autonomous SSR.

The “Civil Council” was established in Warsaw in November 2022. Then the Internet domain is registered. The movement’s official website is still under development and has only a few hundred followers on social media. But the association calls itself the coordinator of the creation of the “Russian Volunteer Corps” (RDK), the formation of which included Nariman Bilyalov (Crimean military man, founder of the “Crimean” battalion Issa Akaev).

Representative of the Civil Council Anastasia Sergeeva, in an interview with Kholod, described the RDK as the only full-fledged military unit of Russian citizens in the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

RDK became known to the public after a raid on the territory of the Bryansk region in early March 2023. It was then that it was possible to greatly shake up the Russian special services, and Putin had to convene an emergency meeting of the Security Council of the Russian Federation.

In addition to the RDK, the existence of the Freedom of Russia legion is known. It was created from the Russian army captured in Ukraine in April 2022, but its activities are not specifically announced. Russian war correspondent Vladlen Tatarsky’s St. Petersburg, responsibility for the operation was assumed by the then unknown “Russian National Republican Army”.

Special services against Putin

The main purpose of the creation of such military formations in exile is an attempt to reach Russian society drugged by propaganda. This is what the founders of the future Siberian Battalion focused on. According to preliminary data, the largest percentage of military losses in the regions are small peoples of the geographical periphery of Russia.

It is not accidental that Vladislav Ammosov was chosen for the role of commander of this military unit – he is a former employee of the GRU (Main Intelligence Directorate). Since Soviet times, this abbreviation has aroused incredible respect among Russians and added credibility to a person in this department. The GRU was an army within the army, conducted intelligence for the Ministry of Defense abroad and was engaged in counterintelligence in areas occupied by the Soviet army.

According to Oleg Zhdanov, the creation of the Siberian battalion led by a former Grushnik is aimed at mobilizing Russian society.

“According to what is currently known, this formation is presented as something like a state military operation, by analogy with the PMCs, but with larger missions – political assassinations, terrorist attacks, kidnappings on the territory of the Russian Federation,” he says. Focus Zhdanov.

“There are more and more brands – the Russian Legion of Freedom, the RDK, the National Republican Army, now the Siberian Battalion. So far, there is not enough information to draw conclusions about what the Siberian Battalion really is – is this the work of the Ukrainian special services or is it really the beginning of a Russian protest seeking support? However, if a movement does indeed exist, its actions should be known in the near future.
