2024 elections in Ukraine should be held despite war – US Senator

According to Lindsey Graham, the Americans are keeping a close eye on the weapons and their transport to Ukraine. And the next step in the development of democracy must be elections.

Republican US Senator Lindsey Graham stated that despite the current Russian occupation, elections should be held in Ukraine next year. This was announced by Lindsey Graham at a press conference in Kiev, Radio Liberty reports.

“My message to the President today is: I’m amazed at what you, your country, and your people have done. We will continue to fight to get you arms so you can win a war we can’t afford to lose. But at the same time, Graham said, “You have to do two things at once. Elections should be held in Ukraine next year,” he said.

Graham argues that elections should be held in Ukraine regardless of the Russian occupation.

“I want this country to hold free and fair elections even if attacked. The American people need to know that Ukraine has changed. It was a very corrupt country in the past,” he said.

According to Graham, at the moment the American side carefully controls the supply of weapons and resources transferred to Ukraine. According to him, the next important step in strengthening democratic processes should be elections.

“We watch every dollar, every weapon. We continue to contribute. And I’m glad that the Ukrainians are not profiting from the American people. They are helping the American people. And I believe it’s time for Ukraine to take that responsibility.” The next step in the development of democracy, namely the holding of elections in 2024,” summarized the US senator.

The next presidential election will be held in 2024, but there are no elections during martial law.

Recall that the Central Election Commission approved the amount of spending on the presidential and parliamentary elections in 2024. The estimated amount could be 9.5 billion.
