Tecatito Corona left without a coach in Sevilla: Julen Lopetegui sacked after defeat in the Champions League and cries because of the fans

Sevilla de Jesus “Tecatiko” Corona is going through an unprecedented sporting crisis. Since the start of the season, the Andalusians have suffered a slump in performance that has left them on the brink of relegation in Spain and half a foot out of the Champions League. This Wednesday, Borussia Dortmund gave him a 1-4 victory in European competition. This result was the straw that broke the back of the camel, and a few minutes after the match, the club announced the dismissal of Julen Lopetegui.

On social media, the institution posted DT’s statements, an official statement and an extensive six-minute video to celebrate his career and thank him for the work he’s done in the three seasons he’s been on the bench.

“Lopetegui ends a successful run with three great campaigns that have more than met their targets and a fourth season that has however, the results were not good, with Sevilla adding five points out of a possible 21 in La Liga.”, the letter says.

Fans have tears in their eyes

After the game, Lopetegui went to the mixed zone and gave an interview to the Movistar + TV channel, where he admitted that he had already been informed of the decision about his future. The technical director took the opportunity to send a message to the fans, whom he classified as “very demanding” but asked for respect and understanding.

At the bottom of the field the coach came out to say goodbye to the fans and the controversy was left behind because they turned in support, chanted his name and applauded him, something that touched the Iberian and it was inevitable for him to hold back his tears. Lopetegui leaves the club after 170 games, in which he scored 89 wins, 45 draws and 36 losses. He became the 2020 Europa League champion and finished second in the European Super Cup.

His career at the Sevillian institution has already made history for the club, becoming the fifth most played coach. It should be remembered that it was Julen who chose Tecatito Coron after coaching him at Porto.
