Three days after Grant Val’s death, The body and belongings of a prominent American football journalist who died last Friday in Qatar 2022 have arrived in his country of origin.This was announced to AP by a senior State Department official.
The official mentioned that Val’s remains arrived in the United States around 8:30 am ET on Monday. The consular officer who had the journalist’s belongings and body in custody shortly after his death was the one who brought them into North America.
The official who provided the report, who did so anonymously, said he had no further details about the event, but said that The Qatari Embassy has been in constant contact with the Wahl family since unfortunate death last Friday, with the intention that the repatriation would go smoothly.
It should be remembered that Grant Wahl died shortly after attending the quarter-final World Cup match between Argentina and the Netherlands, where he collapsed during the second half, allegedly due to a heart attack. He was later transferred to a nearby hospital where he was treated but could not survive.
Since then, Solidarity with the family in connection with a sensitive loss was presented from different areas.including the political one, where this Monday US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken dedicated a few posthumous words to him after repatriation.
“I am very grateful to Grant Wahl, whose text reflected not only the essence of a great game, but also the world around. I extend my deepest condolences to his family and thank our embassy team and Qatari partners who worked together so effectively to fulfill his wishes.Blinken tweeted about an hour after the journalist’s remains arrived.
Wahl was known for his work for Sports Illustrated for over 20 years before he launched his own website. He has been the most famous voice of football in the United States, having worked extensively in this regard since the country hosted the 1994 World Cup.
Grant Val’s brother hopes that American doctors will help him find out the causes of the journalist’s death in Qatar in 2022.
