The Asian Confederation (AFC) is ready to accept the Russian Football Union (RFU). This was stated by the President of the organization Alexander Dyukov.

According to him, AFC has again confirmed its readiness to include the Russian association in its structure. However, Dyukov questioned Russia’s ability to participate in Asian competitions in 2023 due to technical procedures that our side may not have time to go through.

The head of the RFU also specified that the working group for the transition to the AFC will be formed after the holidays. The goal of the union, according to Dyukov, is to enter the qualifications for the 2026 world championship.

The executive committee of the RFU made a decision to create a group at a meeting on December 30.

Recall that back in November there were rumors about the likely transition of the RFU to Asia. But to get to the tournament, Russia needs to leave UEFA before the end of the year.

FIFA and UEFA, as we wrote earlier, have banned our athletes from participating in international competitions since February 28.
