The former Dominican basketball player was stabbed to death in the Bronx in an alleged fight over a parking space.

Sergio Garcia “Bido” was brutally murdered in the early hours of January 1st in the Bronx, New York. The local NYPD said a man in his 63s was stabbed and killed in an alleged altercation over a parking lot with an assailant who fled the scene after killing Garcia.

The former Dominican basketball player became the first murder victim in 2023 in New York City. According to ABC 7 report in New Yorkthere is a video showing an argument between 2 people with a car and a black van that belonged to Garcia, parked in front of the building. A woman was also injured, but she is not in danger.

The Dominican Basketball Federation expressed its condolences on the death of Bido Garcia at the age of 63 and remembered him with a photograph in the uniform of the Dominican basketball team.

“The Dominican Basketball Federation expresses its regret over the tragic death of former basketball player Sergio Bido. We wish God to give strength to your family and friends. Peace to his soul,” the organization said in a statement.

Sergio was the champion of the 1983 National Games, held in San Pedro de Macoris, representing the national district, and in the same year he became the champion with the Arroyo Hondo club in the highest basketball tournament of the national district. During his career, he also received promotion in the Venezuelan Professional Basketball League.

A campaign has begun on social networks to raise funds for the funeral of Garcia, as well as relatives and friends.They staged a picket to demand that the New York authorities be more vigilant in light of the unfortunate event that began in 2023.
