Elena Chaikovskaya has been appointed head coach of the Russian national figure skating team, TASS reports.
“This is the third time this has happened, so the post is not new.“, says the coach.
Tchaikovsky was appointed to this position to replace the president of the Russian Figure Skating Federation (FFKKR), Olympic champion Alexander Gorshkov, who died on November 17.
83-year-old Elena Chaikovskaya is an honored coach of the USSR and Russia, an honored worker of arts of Russia, a master of sports of the USSR, chairman of the coaching council of the FFKKR.
During her leadership of the national team at the 1994 Olympics, Alexei Urmanov became the champion in men’s single skating, Ekaterina Gordeeva and Sergey Grinkov won the pairs competition, and Oksana Grischuk and Evgeny Platov won gold medals in ice dancing. The team also received two silver medals.
In addition, Tchaikovskaya personally trained Olympic champions in ice dancing Natalya Linichuk and Gennady Karponosov, as well as world champion and three-time European champion Maria Butyrskaya.
